The KinMet Meetings

For more than thirty years researchers have been meeting to present and discuss research focused on lipid and lipoprotein metabolism in in vivo and in vitro systems, the use of tracer studies and mathematical modeling. Historically, meetings were held before or following the November American Heart Association Scientific Meetings. More recently, KinMet meetings have been held on the afternoon prior to the Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology Annual Conference (ATVB) meeting held in April or May each year. The KinMet meeting is broadly divided into three sessions:
  •    Modeling and Cell Metabolism - mathematical models, tracer data, modeling techniques
  •    Apoprotein Kinetics and Whole Organism Metabolism
  •    HDL and Cholesterol Kinetics and Whole Organism Metabolism
KinMet meetings are informal and provide a forum for all researchers, including postgraduate students, to present some preliminary data, a complete research study or to discuss issues related to experimental design and analysis.

2012 Meeting in Chicago

The 2011 Chicago meeting was a great success with more than 60 participants presenting new research that focused on modeling methods and lipid and lipoprotein metabolism. The 2012 meeting will be held April 17 at the Hilton Chicago720 Michigan Avenue, between noon and 6pm.

Keynote Lectures

The 2011 Berman-Zech Award Lecture was presented by Professor Robert R Wolfe, PhD, Director of the Center for Translational Research in Aging Longevity, Donald W. Reynolds Department of Geriatrics, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

The Robert I Levy Memorial Lecture was presented by Professor Daniel Rader, MD, Institute of Translational Medicine and Therapeutics, University of Pennsylvania. His lecture wil be presented at 4pm.

Awards

Each year awards are presented to honor the memories of Mones Berman and Loren Zech. Mones and Loren made significant contributions to the fields of mathematical modeling and lipoprotein physiology. Past awardees of the Berman Zech Award for metabolic modeling.

The Robert I Levy Award is presented to a researcher who has made valuable contributions to the field of lipoprotein metabolism. Bob Levy made significant contributions to the fields of lipid metabolism, dyslipoproteinemia, and coronary heart disease. Past awardees of the Levy Award for lipoprotein metabolism.
